Supercars will return to Phillip Island in 2027 under a five-year arrangement for the Victorian track to host a championship finals round, as the venue prepares to farewell the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

The circuit last staged Supercars racing in 2019. Its return comes at the expense of another circuit on next season’s 14-race calendar, with Adelaide keeping the grand final.

Phillip Island lost its MotoGP hosting rights in February. Adelaide will stage that event for six years from 2027, while World Superbikes will move to The Bend in 2028.

MotoGP officials had sought to shift the motorcycle grand prix to Albert Park’s Formula One circuit, but the Victorian government rejected that proposal.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation chief executive Travis Auld acknowledged that Supercars would not provide an equivalent replacement. Destination Phillip Island puts the annual economic activity associated with MotoGP and World Superbikes at more than A$80 million.

About 60,000 spectators attended Phillip Island’s previous Supercars event. Auld said he expected more than 150,000 people at its final MotoGP event, scheduled for 23–25 October.

Victorian Major Events Minister Anthony Carbines said the state government would be prepared to intervene if Adelaide’s MotoGP move did not work out.
