James Tedesco says reclaiming a place in Australia's World Cup side is an opportunity to fulfil his role, rather than a contest with Reece Walsh, as he prepares to face Fiji at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

The match will end a Test absence dating to 2023 for the Sydney Roosters captain. At 33, Tedesco is Australia's oldest squad member and said he had been uncertain whether another international opportunity would come.

Walsh took the fullback spot for the opening victory over New Zealand, contributing a long solo try and a tackle that denied Kalyn Ponga a try. Tedesco praised his return from injury and said he enjoyed offering advice when Walsh sought it.

Changes are also expected in the halves, where Tom Dearden is set to partner Sam Walker. A calf injury has ruled Mitchell Moses out for the remainder of the tournament, while Cam Munster is set for a rest. Tedesco said Walker combined instinctive play with lessons from Daly Cherry-Evans.

Fiji enter the match after defeating the Cook Islands 40-12. Brandon Wakeham earned man-of-the-match honours with four tackle breaks, three try assists and two line breaks.
