Jack Miller crashes twice and misses direct MotoGP qualifying passage
The Australian rider was 12th fastest in practice at Phillip Island, leaving him needing to progress through the opening qualifying session.

Jack Miller must contest the opening qualifying session at the Australian MotoGP after two practice crashes at Phillip Island left him outside the top 10 needed for direct entry to the second session.
The 31-year-old Pramac Yamaha rider fell during free practice, then crashed again later before continuing to ride. He finished with the 12th-fastest lap and is the sole Australian in the premier-class field at the circuit.
Miller now needs a top-two result in the first qualifying session to reach the second, where the front-row positions are decided. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday morning, with the sprint later that day and the main race on Sunday.
Aprilia Racing rider Marco Bezzecchi set the practice pace, clocking one minute and 26.775 seconds. Defending Australian GP winner Raúl Fernández followed in second place, ahead of Marc Marquez.
The meeting is Phillip Island’s last Australian MotoGP before the event relocates to Adelaide from November 2027. The move followed the Victorian government’s rejection of a proposed switch to Melbourne’s Albert Park.
Four rounds remain in the championship, with Aprilia’s Jorge Martin and Ducati Lenovo’s Marquez separated by two points in the standings.
