Australia scored 21 tries to defeat Wales 124-6 at CommBank Stadium, setting a record for the largest victory in international women’s rugby league. The Jillaroos will meet Fiji at Allianz Stadium in a World Cup semi-final.

The result eclipsed the previous benchmark set by France, who beat Serbia 116-0 in 2023. Australia led 60-0 at half-time after Olivia Kernick opened the scoring and Jaime Chapman added the next two tries.

Chapman finished with six tries, matching the Jillaroos’ individual record for a match. Five-eighth Jesse Southwell set a team scoring record with 44 points, contributing a try and converting 20 of her 21 attempts.

Jess Sergis crossed four times, while Keilee Joseph, Abbi Church and Tamika Upton each scored twice. Both Sergis and Chapman individually ran for more metres than Wales managed as a team.

Wales became the first team to score against Australia during the tournament when Paige Travis collected a Tayla Preston grubber kick for a try in the 59th minute. Kezie Apps, Sariah Paki and Keeley Nizza also contributed a try apiece for the Jillaroos.
