Knights extend Justin Holbrook’s coaching contract to 2030
The Newcastle coach has received another two NRL seasons after taking the club from a wooden spoon campaign to a grand final.

Newcastle have extended coach Justin Holbrook’s deal through to the end of 2030 following the Knights’ first grand final appearance for 25 years. His existing contract covered 2027 and 2028, with the club adding two more NRL seasons.
Holbrook, 50, took charge after Newcastle finished with the wooden spoon in 2025. The former Gold Coast and St Helens coach then led the Knights to the premiership decider, where the Sydney Roosters beat them 19-18.
Knights football director Chris James credited Holbrook with creating a workplace where players enjoyed training and wanted to improve. He said that culture underpinned the team’s progress to the grand final.
James also said Holbrook had strengthened ties between the team and its community. He said retaining the coach until 2030 would allow Newcastle to continue developing that relationship.
