CBA adopts Atlassian planning tools to track A$400 million AI goal
The bank says it migrated more than 9,000 goals into the system and trained its top 20% of personnel during a six-week rollout.

CBA has put Atlassian’s Strategy Collection into use to coordinate work towards its target of A$400 million in AI benefits for the current financial year, engineering platform general manager Helen Lau said.
Speaking at Atlassian’s Teams 26 Europe conference, Lau said the bank had recorded about A$200 million in AI benefits in the most recent financial year. The three-tool suite connects the bank’s priorities with teams’ everyday tasks, allowing leaders to track contributions towards its goals and allocate resources.
The implementation followed a halted pilot involving two internal departments. Lau ended that trial after eight weeks rather than the planned 12, saying neither CBA nor Atlassian was ready for a rollout across the group.
The bank restarted the implementation in March. Lau said that within six weeks, more than 9,000 goals had been transferred into the system and training had covered the organisation’s top 20 per cent of personnel, including C-level executives.
Lau said AI was being incorporated across CBA’s operations, including customer experience, fraud and scam detection and prevention, financial crime, cyber security and productivity. The bank and Atlassian have worked together for almost two decades.
