Taronga Zoo’s Me-Gal restaurant is getting a new culinary direction under chef Matt Stone, with the venue to open as Me-Gal by Matt Stone on 15 December 2026.

Stone said his approach would centre on Australian produce, incorporating native ingredients, fermentation and closed-loop kitchen practices. Specific dishes are yet to be detailed. Diners will have a choice of set menus or à la carte options, and will not need to be visiting the zoo.

The restaurant will also undergo a full refit, to be revealed when Stone arrives. His Wines by Matt Stone range will be included in the drinks offering, with female winemakers representing 50 per cent of the wine list.

Taronga Zoo executive director Nick Boyle said the chef’s emphasis on reducing waste, ethical sourcing and local producers aligned with the organisation’s approach.

Hospitality group Trippas White established Me-Gal in 2023. The restaurant is at 2A Bradleys Head Road, Mosman. Stone’s previous projects include Greenhouse Perth, Future Food System in Melbourne and menu work at Northern Rivers venues.
