Telecommunications and digital services used by key NT government agencies are back online after an outage lasting about 12 hours. The disruption affected departments including Police, Health and Education.

The outage started at about 3am NT time. The Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD) used workarounds to restore access, but details of those measures have not been disclosed.

The government described the disruption as territory-wide and said DCDD was still investigating its underlying cause. The department is also working to identify steps to avoid similar disruptions.

The government said triple zero remained available for the duration of the outage, while patient care continued at every Territory hospital.

NT Police said communications for non-emergency assistance were affected, along with telephone lines serving local police stations. Other agencies reported problems using their phones and email, as well as accessing servers connected to the network.
