South Australia will return to AFL Origin against Western Australia at Optus Stadium on 27 February 2027, with the league confirming the date for the Perth fixture.

The opening bounce is scheduled for 4.40pm local time, or 7.10pm ACDT and 7.40pm AEDT. The game will end South Australia’s 28-year wait to take part in Origin.

The fixture falls two weeks later than the 2026 edition. The AFL’s 2027 season is being delayed because the MCG will host the Australian men’s cricket team’s 150th anniversary Test against England.

The match also coincides with the SANFL’s 150th anniversary and comes 50 years after the first Origin game in 1977. Potential South Australian players include Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Lachie Neale and Jordan Dawson, subject to availability.

Further measures aimed at reducing injury risk are set to be introduced in 2027. Several players sustained injuries in the 2026 contest or had injuries linked to their participation. Victoria won that match against WA before 58,141 spectators at Optus Stadium.

The AFL announced its three-match Origin schedule in July. South Australia is due to face Victoria in 2028, followed by a Western Australia–Victoria match in 2029.
