Dustin Martin says he would consider part-time mentoring in the AFL, with the former Richmond player leaving open the possibility of a return to football two years after retiring.

The three-time Norm Smith medallist said in an interview that a full-time position might not suit him, but mentoring was something he could explore in future. He has not committed to a role.

Martin also supported Richmond’s decision to field an even younger squad next season. He compared the turnover of players and development at Punt Rd with the changes he encountered early in his own career.

He said he had met a couple of times with Sam Lalor, who now wears Richmond’s No.4, and hoped the young player could get his body right and have a good pre-season.

Martin plans to play further local football games with former teammates. He is also set to appear in cricket’s T20 Gold Cup on 22 November alongside Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett Jr, Ash Barty, Matthew Hayden and Brian Lara.
