North Melbourne defender Griffin Logue has undergone a full reconstruction of his shoulder following an injury unrelated to football, with contact training ruled out until January.

The 28-year-old played 16 AFL games during a season interrupted by an early hamstring injury and a month in the VFL. He returned to the senior side for the season’s final five weeks.

Logue is approaching the last season of the five-year deal he signed when he moved from Fremantle to North Melbourne at the end of 2022.

His injury follows North Melbourne’s unsuccessful attempt to recruit Adelaide’s contracted key defender Nick Murray. The Kangaroos offered draft picks No.33 and No.49, plus their 2027 first-round and third-round selections, in exchange for Murray and a future fourth-round pick.

North Melbourne list boss Brady Rawlings said the club had tried hard to reach an agreement, but Adelaide rejected the offer. Adelaide list boss Jarryd Roughead said losing another key defender after Jordon Butts’ departure as a free agent would test the club’s depth while it was focused on winning now.
