Kwon Bee Sim has become Australia’s youngest women’s club champion at eight years old, winning at Northbridge Golf Club in Sydney. She secured victory in the final round with five holes still to play.

The Year 3 student from the North Shore has a handicap of 10. She said golf was now part of her identity and that she enjoyed the chance to compete against other players.

Clinton Russell, the club’s head professional, described an opponent’s concerned reaction after Kwon Bee hit a shot close to the hole.

Her father, Kyu Sim, is a former professional golfer. Kwon Bee hopes to pursue a professional career herself and said beating her father was a motivation. Asked how often she already managed that, she said it happened frequently.

Kyu Sim said the priority at her age was enjoyment and positive motivation. He and Kwon Bee’s mother, Park Han Kwon, were proud of their daughter’s achievement.
