Australia has enlisted Mike Hussey for an expanded consultancy role covering major international campaigns, with the former batter due to join the squad before its T20 series against England.

Hussey recently declined interest from England. His involvement with Australia will include the Ashes tour and 50-over World Cup campaign, alongside advisory work for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup cycle.

Cricket will return to the Olympic program in Los Angeles, having last appeared in 1900. Hussey said he hoped his more formal involvement would benefit Australia's players and coaching staff.

The move follows criticism of Australia's top-order batters after the team collapsed on the final day of the deciding Test in Cape Town.

Ben Oliver, Cricket Australia's national teams general manager, said Hussey brought international experience, an understanding of domestic cricket and coaching expertise. Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald said Hussey had contributed to the staff previously and offered skills that complemented the existing group.

Hussey represented Australia in more than 300 matches, with batting averages above 51 in Tests, 48 in 50-over matches and 38 in T20 cricket.
