Leticia McKenna scored two first-half goals in Australia’s 7-1 victory over Haiti in Chambly, France, as the Matildas continued preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Nottingham Forest midfielder now has three goals from four international appearances.

Clare Wheeler set up McKenna’s opener after 80 seconds, but Melchie Dumornay quickly brought Haiti level. McKenna restored Australia’s advantage just before half-time, finishing after collecting a loose ball inside the penalty area.

An own goal from Haiti’s Kethna Louis extended the lead in the 53rd minute after Sam Kerr directed the ball towards goal. Caitlin Foord then scored, followed by substitute Daniela Galic’s first international goal in the 73rd minute. Wheeler and Holly McNamara added the final goals.

Kerr contributed to two goals despite concerns about her fitness after she reported ankle soreness following the 4-2 defeat to Germany. Steph Catley did not play against Haiti because she was being managed.

Coach Joe Montemurro said Australia was not yet ready for next year’s World Cup and that he needed more time to choose his squad from a growing pool of players. McKenna said watching the team in 2023 had strengthened her desire to take part, and she welcomed the possibility of selection.
