Ka Ying Rising draws gate 11 for Everest title defence
Tempted will start from gate 1 in the A$20 million race at Royal Randwick, while Giga Kick has drawn gate 12.

Defending Everest winner Ka Ying Rising has been allocated barrier 11 for the A$20 million Royal Randwick race, with trainer David Hayes more concerned about wet conditions than the wide starting position.
Tempted drew gate 1, Joliestar gate 5 and Jimmysstar gate 8. Ninja will jump from barrier 3, while Clayton Douglas-trained Giga Kick has gate 12. Zac Purton is listed to ride Ka Ying Rising, who won last year’s Everest after starting from gate 7.
Randwick’s track rating is Good 4, with rain forecast for Friday and Saturday. Hayes said a Heavy 8 surface would concern him, with greater worries at Heavy 9. He said Ka Ying Rising had won from a range of starting positions during a sequence of 21 consecutive victories.
Ka Ying Rising’s final fast workout took place at Canterbury on Monday. Hayes said he was pleased with the horse’s recovery after the session and that the earlier trial had helped advance his preparation.
