Tom Dearden rules out Cowboys swap with Sam Walker
The North Queensland co-captain says he remains committed to the club as he prepares to play halfback for Australia against Cook Islands.

North Queensland co-captain Tom Dearden has rejected speculation about exchanging clubs with Sydney Roosters halfback Sam Walker, saying he has no intention of leaving the Cowboys.
The speculation followed the Roosters’ withdrawal of a contract extension for Walker. Dearden’s Cowboys contract runs through to the end of 2029, and he does not become a free agent until 1 November 2028.
Dearden said he found the rumours frustrating, particularly when supporters believed them despite his repeated assurances that he would stay. He also said his Sydney-based partner Millie still planned to move to Townsville. The couple recently welcomed their daughter Dolly.
Dearden has been selected ahead of Walker to play halfback against Cook Islands in Townsville at the Rugby League World Cup. He said teammates were supporting Walker following the developments over his Roosters contract.
After attending Dolly’s birth, Dearden travelled to Brisbane and played five-eighth against Fiji. He said his focus was now on fulfilling his role for Australia and helping the team perform, while crediting Millie for caring for their daughter during his time in camp.
