Zahrann has drawn barrier four in a capacity Caulfield Cup field, with 18 runners and four emergencies accepting for the race’s 150th running. The Group 1 contest is over 2,400 metres.

Ciaron Maher has five runners in the main field and three emergencies, while Chris Waller has three starters. Maher’s other confirmed runners drew barriers two for Saint George, eight for Royal Supremacy, 11 for Middle Earth and 12 for Kings Valley.

Waller’s runners are Asterix in barrier 10, Soul Of Spain in 13 and Ohope Wins in 16. The three international runners drew the inside barrier for Enfjaar, 15 for Starford and 19 for Wine Dark Sea.

Cosmic Crusader drew barrier 17, although that could become 14 if no emergencies secure a start. Half Yours was allocated barrier seven, with Mark Zahra taking the ride from Jamie Melham.

Jack Turnbull, National Assistant Trainer for Ciaron Maher Racing, welcomed Zahrann’s draw after a disappointing Turnbull Stakes performance at Flemington. Zahrann earned a ballot exemption by winning the Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield on 19 September, when Saint George finished second. Kings Valley is seeking an A$1 million bonus after winning the Mornington Cup in April.
