So You Are claimed a third successive victory in Randwick’s 2600m St Leger Stakes, with trainer Bjorn Baker confirming his intention to run the horse in the Melbourne Cup.

Ridden by Tommy Berry, the stayer resisted Tempesti’s challenge to win by three-quarters of a length. Zac Lloyd rode Klondike into third after the horse finished strongly.

Preparations were interrupted when So You Are was found without a lead bag before parading. The horse had to have his saddle removed while his equipment was weighed again, then be saddled once more.

Baker’s assistant Glen Lobb was pushed backwards and knocked down by the horse while completing the preparations. Lobb was unharmed, and So You Are went on to win despite appearing unsettled by the attention.

The horse has 52kg for the 3200m Melbourne Cup. Baker said he was confident the result would be enough to gain entry and hoped the stayer would recover well. So You Are has been in Baker’s care for four runs.
