Sydney Mardi Gras afterparty to return in 2027 at stadium venue
The post-parade celebration will be held beneath Sydney Football Stadium after financial losses forced organisers to cancel the 2026 party.

Sydney Mardi Gras will bring back its afterparty on 6 March 2027, with chief executive Jesse Matheson announcing a new setting in the tunnels beneath Sydney Football Stadium. The celebration will run from 10pm to 6am after the parade.
Organisers cancelled the 2026 party weeks before the 28 February parade. Matheson said at the time that the party had suffered significant financial losses for two years, and the planned event was expected to cost about A$2 million — more than the parade.
The cancellation gave the organisation room to stabilise, Matheson said. Organisers had also lost their headline artist over the Christmas break, followed by the withdrawal of a replacement act.
The 49th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is scheduled for 12 February to 7 March, extending celebrations by a week compared with previous festivals. Rogue Traders and Zippora will headline its opening event at Victoria Park on Valentine's Day, while Clementine Douglas will lead the closing celebrations at Laneway.
The parade will follow Oxford Street on 6 March. Members can buy tickets from 9 November, with general sales and party pre-sales opening on 12 November. The afterparty's full performer line-up is yet to be announced.
