Telstra says it has fixed a MessageBank fault after customers received a flood of SMS notifications on 4 November about missed calls, including from contacts who had not called them.
A company spokesperson said the problem could cause delayed alerts for missed calls and voicemail to arrive together. Telstra acknowledged the confusion for customers and apologised.
The spokesperson said the MessageBank problem had not affected calls to Triple Zero, other voice calls or mobile data. The DownDetector website also recorded a jump in reports of problems with Telstra that day.
The incident follows a separate nationwide Telstra outage on 8 July that disrupted Australians' access to emergency services. Hundreds of calls to Triple Zero failed to connect during that outage.
About 45 per cent of the network's calls and data connections were affected by the July disruption. Telstra said the November fault was with MessageBank, rather than the calling or mobile data services.
