Australia suffered a 43-21 defeat against New Zealand at Sydney’s Accor Stadium as the visitors scored seven tries in the Bledisloe Cup return match. The result followed the Wallabies’ 50-19 loss in Auckland, where New Zealand retained the trophy for a 23rd consecutive year.

Beauden Barrett scored twice before half-time, while Josh Moorby, Wallace Sititi and replacement Rieko Ioane also crossed during the opening half. New Zealand took a 36-7 lead into the interval.

Jeremy Williams supplied Australia’s only try before the break, scoring in the 28th minute, but the lock subsequently received a yellow card. Moorby added his second try a minute into the second half, taking the visitors’ advantage to 43-7.

Tom Wright and replacement centre Filipo Daugunu scored later tries for Australia in front of a crowd of 73,399.

New Zealand played without Jordie Barrett after a calf injury ruled him out before kick-off, while Quinn Tupaea suffered a concussion within the first 15 minutes. Ardie Savea, Richie Mo’unga and Ruben Love were also absent.

Wallabies coach Les Kiss had begun his tenure with five victories and a draw across six Tests this year. Captain Harry Wilson said the series had been disappointing and Australia needed substantial improvement before their spring tour.
